song is awesome, most people see it as fixing a relationship after its broken, but really he is saying its a game and he would fix the result if he could, like paying a boxer to go down. the song works on so many levels

I know the alt-country world likes to claim he belongs to them (and to some extent, he does) and the alt-rock world likes to claim he belongs to them (and to some extent, he does), but I believe that Ryan Adams is his own man. Alt-country? Alt-rock? Who cares?! This is art, plain and simple.
Ryan, enjoy your hiatus and don't listen to the haters. Enjoy married life and come out of retirement only when YOU are ready.
