Foreign Correspondant - Alexandros Grigoropoulos 3/3 (Australian TV)

This is a fairly impartial recount of the December '08 Greek riots, produced by and aired on ABC's "Foreign Correspondant". What they have failed to mention is that the assasination of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos by the greek police was not a single incident, but the latest link in a long-lasting chain of state-induced violence and brutality. And of course, it was not just "500 anarchists that trashed Athens" (as mentioned by a failed politician-wannabe in the documentary) but tens of thousands of Athenians of all ages and ideologies, that in the most part demonstrated peacefully yet angrily against the corrupt greek authorities.

Το ντοκιμαντέρ αυτό προβλήθηκε τον Ιούνιο του 2009 στην αυστραλιανή τηλεόραση κι αποτελεί μια σχετική αμερόληπτη & αποστασιοποιημένη αφήγηση των γεγονότων του Δεκέμβρη. Βέβαια, τους ξέφυγαν κάποια πράγματα όπως π.χ. οτι η δολοφονία του Αλέξανδρου Γρηγορόπουλου δεν ήταν "μεμονωμένο περιστατικό", ενώ και οι αναφορές του Χρυσοχοΐδη σε "500 αναρχικούς που έκαψαν την πόλη" αξίζει να κρατηθούν και να προβληθούν στις επόμενες εκλογές, για να μην ξεχνάμε με τι ανθρώπους έχουμε να κάνουμε.

Ελπίζω ο χώρος των σχολίων να μη γίνει πεδίο χυδαίων αντιπαραθέσεων και από τις δυο πλευρές, γιατί θα αναγκαστώ να τα κλειδώσω, και είναι κρίμα.

You present Exarchia as if it was "Hell's kintchen" in New York or something like that. That place is quite a friendly one. The youths in ther are not just violent... not in the American or other western cities style. THEY ARE POLITICALLY violent and that is what scare you. If they were killing each other for heroin or crack no such a worry would be shown by your stinking TV shows.

In Portugal, te mean salary is 500 Euros, much worse than in Greece. Nothing happens in there. Greek people just know the simplest truth and so act in consequence. They have the idea. What happens in there is not just due to easy sociological stereotyped analysis. It is not just an economical thing. It is a deep rooted culture impermeable to the capitalistic-consumerist propaganda of totalitarian democracies.

Right now the anarchists and other revolutionary organisations are setting up constructive initiatives as well. They get mercylessly attacked and so defend themselves. An increasing amount of people has stopped believing in Democracy and hate wage labour. They want another society, stateless and communal. They mean it and are making breathtaking progress in that direction without counting on any state or business institution.
