President tells party representatives set an example on elections - 6th September 2009

President Rajapaksa has emphasised to party representatives in Tangalla to set an example on elections from the South.
The President said all are awaiting the results from the South and particularly from the Hambantota District. They are awaiting to compare the percentage of votes secured by the Freedom Alliance from this District. The President was confident that the people would hand in a resounding victory as done at the Presidential poll. At that time, he sought the mandate to safeguard the motherland from the terrorists who had plagued the country for 30 years. Today he has come to the District to address the Tangalla polity as a leader who had honoured this pledge. He emphasised that they did not deviate but fulfilled pledges. The President reminded that the country was not only liberated from the terrorists but attention was also directed at the same time towards development.
The President was addressing SLFP representatives of the Tangalla electorate. There are many countries which are against Sri Lanka although Sri Lanka is not against other countries. However, the President underscored that Sri Lanka had the courage to face these countries fearlessly. The meeting was organised by the Tangalla SLFP electoral organiser and Minister Mahinda Amaraweera. The President handed over the related documents to the Southern Provincial Election Monitoring Working Committee members of the Tangalla electorate. Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Rannjith Siyambalapitiya, Salinda Dissanayake, Geethanjana Gunawardena, Jayatissa Ranaweera and Duminda Dissanayake, Parliamentarians Wimal Weerawansa and Nirupama Rajapaksa and Alliance candidates contesting the Southern polls were present.
Meanwhile, the President inspected the construction of the new judicial complex in Pangalla. It will cost 252 million rupees. It is due to be opened next month. The President also inquired into the well being of Local Government member Prematilake Amaraweera receiving treatment at the Tangalla Hospital. He is alleged to have been attacked by the JVP in the Ranna area.The President also inspected the crematorium in Beliatta.

It was followed by a briefing of SLFP representatives of the Beliatta electorate on the future development programmes. Beliatta electoral organiser and Parliamentarian Nirupama Rajapaksa organised this meeting. Ministers Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Jayaratna Herath and Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Western Provincial Councillor Duminda Silva and many Freedom Alliance candidates contesting the Southern polls were present.
