OUR STORY:
Preston and I first met in the fifth grade when we were assigned to sit together at the same desk. I've had a crush on him ever since. We went on our first movie date in the eighth grade but shortly after he and his family moved to Colorado. We kept in touch and had wonderful late night talks but wondered if we would ever see each other again. After graduation, I enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin. Preston joined the army.
While Preston was deployed in Afghanistan, I wrote him the first of many letters. With this letter, I mailed along a picture of myself which made it through afghan dirt, Preston's sweat, and several explosions. On one occasion when Preston's unit was hit by a bomb, he earned a Bronze Star with Valor for courageous actions and a Purple Heart for being wounded in action. He is a humble courageous soldier, and as his lieutenant told me, "a true hero." Preston is all those things and more importantly my soulmate. The day he came back was one of the happiest days of my life. After what we've been through, nothing can tear us apart. We have a deep understanding of how fortunate we are to have one another and how precious life is. I wake up every day excited about sharing our marriage with family and friends. Preston leaves the military in November and will join me in Austin to begin college. We look forward to sharing simple things such as walking our dogs, cooking, and romantic dates. In the 5th grade Preston and I shared a desk, and now we're sharing our lives. We look forward to starting this new chapter and exciting journey together. Marilyn, thank you and God bless you for waiting, enduring, and being faithful to this wonderful soldier. The future is bright however it shapes up, but a very special wedding would be icing on the cake.
