  • Not how Shostakovich intended it to be played. That's not to say that these musicians aren't talented, but there is something to be said about this piece being written for an octet. It was made for the intimacy of eight people to work as one expressive and organic unit, not 15 people serving as cogs in a machine controlled by outside direction.

  • Very interesting interpretation, especially with a conductor. Listen to The Young Eight play it as an octet. It's quite good!

  • acoustics are a bit too wet for the second part... probably could have done better with less people, and shorter/more precise notes/crisper articulation..

  • bravo

  • excellent interpretation !

  • 5:47

  • great performance

i'm just not sure if it can count as chamber music if there's a conductor

not saying that detracts from it...

  • thats not a string octet! There's at least 15 people. Thats almost 2!

  • never heard insight of a great mind - thanks! - it speaks directly into my soul

  • very very beautifull
