At the Hong Kong Arts Centre until November 18th you have the chance to see an exhibition by one of Pakistan's most highly considered contemporary artists. He's Rashid Rana. When you look at his work it pays to look closely. You may be surprised at what you see. From a distance, the 2007 "Red Carpet" seems to be a traditional Persian rug. Up close, the viewer realizes it's made up of thousands of goats being slaughtered according to Halal Law.In "Offshore Accounts" what appears to be an image of an undulating sea is composed of small images of landfill waste interspersed with tiny romanticised pictures of European sea voyages.
