For the fall back thing I think he has a ultra-strong locking brace under his trousers, probably controlled remotely from a button in his pockets.
I imagine it takes a lot of practise balancing on it. What you think?
You can tell he's trying to make it come un-done when he's risen, as he looks anxious for a few seconds until it unlocks at 4:38.
