Dallas Texas August 17, 2009 - The people for healthcare reform outnumbered those against 5 to 1 at a rally outside Cityplace Conference Center this morning where Eddit Bernice Johnson and Pete Sessions were scheduled to speak on health care reform
I was there as a Pro-Insurance Reform supporter. The important thing about this rally is many sides were represented. Other Town Hall meetings I attended only had "fringe"parties like the Libertatians loudly giving their views & getting attention as being the popular viewpoint, which isn't true. As with many issues, the loudest are often the minority, but get the most media coverage bacause they are so aggressive. I'm happy that the Pro side had decided to be more pro-active.
Sorry, but gathering 2 HOURS before the actual event, it's easy to catch a point where you outnumber the other side (especially with the $11-$16/hr offered in many Craiglist entries for Dallas 'activists'; Soros money strikes again). At 8:30, when the event started, the count was more like 200 opposing to 140 supporting. All of that as your best effort.
With NO paid activists or external funds, we've had 6 events in the thousands and one in the many tens of thousands locally. Nice try.
My count was 80 opposing and 150 supporting, far different from the dozens of events I attended in which opposing outnumbered supporters by 10-1. The only difference in this event was that they had organizers on the supporters side (opposition has always been just collective of many different people, not groups). I particularly liked being told by a cop to "tread lightly" or risk being removed when I was having a conversation with a supporter (that both of us were enjoying). Fair indeed :|
