MYS participants (Sur Group) workshop on Radio by Carlos Chirinos of SOAS Radio and Chris Fisher of Merge104.8.The objective of this workshop was the production of short radio programs addressing the UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
They were introduced to the UN's MDGs, basic ideas on communication for development and a selection of songs - from traditional music to conscious hip hop - that relate to the MDG's and other issues affecting the world.
Participants were divided into small groups and each commissioned to develop a short radio piece addressing one of these MDGs, using interviews, vox pops and a music track.
Participants researched the topics online to find examples and data to back up their programmes. Received training in the use of audio portable recorders and essential radio production and presenting techniques. At the end of the workshop, the groups presented their final piece, encouraging feedback and constructive criticism.
