Now having shown you views from the train, we now head line side for the last 3 video's in this series. The location is Skeltons Tower near Levisham. It's about a 15 minute walk from the road to this location. As it's on the edge of a ridge it can be very cold, even in summer!! (Warm gear & maybe a hot flask strongly recommended.) Also Advise wearing walking boots as it can be very wet & boggy under foot!!

Any way the location is worth the walk & the view from the ridge is really good. As you look at the line below you from this view point, it climbs as it goes away from you up Newton Dale. Thus trains that are going away from you have to work hard on this climb. So in this clip we see one of the trains heading south & coasting down the incline.

Sorry about the wind noise on the camera's mic, was just a little breezy sat on this view point. In the next video you'll see a hard working steam loco heading up this climb.More to follow

  • A true masterpiece! I guess there are a few railway paintings from that location! Just amazing how the railway fits in so nicely with the landscape! Cheers 5*****

  • Also amazing to think there was a mine at this location, now long gone & nature has completely covered it's remains. I could sit at this spot all day :-) Regards.

  • hey to get rid of the camera wind noise I think you can take some cotton or similar and stick it in front of the mic (or something like that) and the wind noise disappears, saw it on the railwaychannel. Just the cheap way of getting a mic like they have the big foamies on the telly!

  • I'll give that a try. I know one of my mates who was with me at this location was trying out an old sock across his mic, seems to work as well. Just uploaded another video from this location, will upload the final part tomorrow.Cheers.
