I'm just curious, honest question: why don't they boil all the water early in the day? I can't imagine they're so poor as to be unable to obtain one large pot and to make fire.

Hi,
Many people do boil water once it has been collected from contaminated sources. Contamination is not the only issue however. In many cases, the problem is access to water sources. Women and children in remote rural communities may have to walk for many hours to fetch dirty water which isn't there all year round.
WaterAid aims to help communities bring reliable, safe sources closer to the home thus reducing the hours spent collecting it, leading to improved living standards.
