Clips from Mearl Purvis' first newscast at WMC in Memphis with Joe Birch, Jarvis Greer and Dave Brown. From January 7, 1992. Also features David Trust, Greeley Kyle and Janice Broach. Purvis was replacing Kim Hindrew, who one day would come back and replace Purvis. Birch says a word of welcome to Purvis at the end of the clip.

Carol Chumney looked almost like Janet Reno back then! She looks nothing like this now. How time changes people. Joe Birch is a class act, still working there now. And yes, Dave Brown's been the meteorologist and still works there. He's really good.

@myronfalwell because they were owned by their parent company Scripps Howard with that company mandate set. WEWS is the company flagship station and WPTV is still owned by Scripps....WMC is now owned by Raycom Media

JANICE BROACH comes in at 6:40 on this clip and looks absolutely gorgeous.

I didn't remember her hair color being black at one time.

Easily the most beautiful tv news reporter any Memphis tv station ever had.

Mearl held it DOWN on her first day there. I have the HUGEST crush on her to this day. I wonder how many people actually called in on that INSTAPOLL? LOL I was in the 7th grade. I actually used Homework Hotline that year for Trig. My sister was born 6 days later! Janice Broach is naturally a BRUNETTE! Greeley Klye, OMG! Couldn't forget him.
