  • Back in 1962 at a Jesuit High School in Brooklyn NY, we were introduced to JMH with this poem. 49 years later I still vibrate to the Universal Chord Hopkins strikes here. What I now appreciate, in addition, is the Anglo-Saxon setting--the alliteration, 2beats/caesura/2beats, and the kennings he makes up much like the ancient Beowulf Bard. All with a modernism that would please Picasso.
