The Seal Hunt may not be directly subsidized, but you need to know that the fisheries in Eastern and Western Canada are the most subsidized on earth. You need only work seasonally for a few weeks every year, and then get paid to do nothing for the remaining 11 months.

As a Canadian I am ashamed of my government. This will definitely be an election platform for my vote and I will not hesitate to ask where the candidate stands. I will write my MP, Prime Mininsters and anyone else who will listen...Stop the Seal Hunt...the world has enough fashion accessories without using seal products! Its needless and its cruel! The Canadian government is an embarassment to us all for allowing this to go on since 1960....

where are you getting this information? fishermen work for as long as they can get on the water, different seasons may only last a week or two but then they fish something else. If it was that easy everyone would want to fish

No, real men don't care about cute animals, they hunt them for food and pelt. Thats the kind or real man who allowed this species to survive. The seal hunt is just as justifiable as rabbit hunting, deer hunting and every other form of hunting, unless you would be so callous as to suggest that becasue soemthing is cute makes it more deserving of life than anything else.

Seal hunting is a super cruel form of hunting. It's sick. It does not happen where real men are around, because we would not sit and watch. Put away the cameras and hurt the people who do this.

These are the facts:

1) Harp seals are not and never have been endangered

2) The harp seal hunt is done in the USA, England, Scandinavia (with EU-endorsed funds), and others (Australia) want a seal hunt because their pop's are out of control

3) During the past 4 decades, the population of harp seals has TRIPLED, even while hunting has continued

4) The harp seal population now numbers around 5.8 million animals- the allowable catch is 3%(ie: Canada has a very well-managed and conservative hunt)

To all the Americans who leave dumb negative comments on here. You may have forgotten you have a state called Alaska. You may want to check into their seal hunt, whaling, killing of walruses, etc etc. Hell why don't you just start protesting the savage murder of millions of fish a year. Such hypocrites
