@bijlmer21 Yeah, fuck 'em. It is anti-competitive practice and illegal and I am taking it to the FTC and to the Justice Dept. Also we need a video that demonstrates what a new Epson buyer can expect in trying to use non Epson cartridges. Epson has programmed the printer to print a few pages and then not "recognize" the cartridge probably on the advice of their lawyers. I will get them.

Hi, I have an Epson Stylus DX4400 and all 4 of my cartridges are empty and i have replaced them with 4 compatible ones but it's not working... Any tips?

It worked, it worked!!!!! Thanks so much for sharing this! My Epson Stylus SX515W has always been fine with non-branded cartridges, but suddenly I got the dreaded "not recognised" message. We tried all sorts of stuff & looked online, but nothing worked. I tried your tip & whilst my printer still said it didn't recognise cartridges, at least this time it told me WHICH ONE was the problem. changed it & Voila! Happy printing on the cheap again!

Didn't work for me I'm afraid. Epson Stylus Photo P50. Mine were working fine before, I'm pretty sure it was a firmware update from Epson that fucked everything up.

this doesnt work on my Epson stylus Sx435w. I have followed these instructions but no joy. It was using the cyan cartridge for a short time and then it gave me the "cartridge not recognised" notice. and now no matter what I do it wont use it.

Matt I;m glad I looked at your video,I didn't know not to turn off the printer when changing cartridges,after giving up hope thinking the printer had developed a fault,I followed your advice and it was sorted. Thank you.

Just an additional point that might help someone. Had a compatible rejected (for the first time) on an R800. What I found was the the bottom of the cart didn't have a proper hole. Widening the hole made it work.

This commentator is not telling the truth: There are in fact many Epson printers that will not use refilled or off-brand cartridges at all and it is commonplace not rare.

@ddapriori1 I would be interested to know what machines these are. We are yet to come across any model of Epson printer that will not accept correctly re-manufactured units.
