  • this guy is one o' the best for jamerson, but i've found that nobody is playin' hard like jamerson did. i didn't really start sounding jamerson like (truly) 'til i started to really bite into the string (while muffling jamerson-style of course) that's when you get that bell tone.

    ~peace

  • Cheers - Jamerson hit hard a lot, but the quicker stuff demands a lighter touch - the high action allows a heavy JJ "classic" tone, a heavy-hit note dies on it's ass when the string is strangled by the fretboard if the action's too low.

Also, Motown's Fairchild limiter was used on a lot of stuff that also adds a sharp "pick" tone to the note - I'll post an example sometime - my cheapo rack comp/limiter can emulate it (and so does the PJB Bass Buddy when set to maximum compression)

  • BASSISTS ROCK ASS MORE THAN ANY OTHER! I mean, the other players in the band are cool, but thank goodness for the low end. Peace.

  • +1!

  • Cool from your fretless friend in Christ Bigrick!

  • Thanks!

  • Much respect to you sir, totally love your playing. As a JJ lover I totally appreciate the effort you put in trying to honour & justify the legend's lines. The tone you've got there sounds mint aswell. Thanks for sharing amigo!

  • Love It ...You Are THE BEST....The Bassline is what made Marvin's music so special....his voice and the Bass of Jamerson...The best duet...Man wish I could do covers with you using your bass....

  • Sounds great to me. How about a view of the left hand? ;)

  • Yup. You nailed it

    indeed.

on another note: i just moved 'what's going on' to the upright an' it sounds pretty sweet. i may play around w/ some other jamerson just for the sake of rockin' his sweet bass grooves on the dbl bass.

    take care

  • alirght!! you got that down packed

  • Outstanding!
