I accidentally started my swapped engine today, so I guess it works. The engine is a 1.8L from a 1994 Mazda Miata. The vehicle is a 1966 Datsun Roadster. See the build at: http://www.too-many-parts.com/rs

  • I am incredibly impressed with your build! Do you have a cardomain for it or anything of the like? I like the BP engine platform. Had one in my Escort GT (91), and those engines are surprisingly potent and require very little to modify.

  • @jareddickey87 - Thanks for the compliment! The only web presence I have for the build is my personal site, which is basically a how-to for doing this swap. YouTube won't let me put the address in a comment, but you can find it above in the description if you haven't already.

  • would a miata engine fit into a an RX7 FC3s?

  • @LonewolfSaichi - I have no idea. If you want to PM me, I can send you a dimensioned massing model of the 1.8L BP engine that I used.

  • the link you give is now broken. i have a datsun 1600 and evaluating the possibility of putting in a miata motor so i would be very interested in seeing documentation of your swap if it is still available. thanks!

  • @xenotrope - The site is back up. There was a snafu with my host. Try it now.

  • @Furryloveshentai - If I were to do this again, I'd use the 1.6L engine. The swap would have been so much cheaper and easier (the 1.6L cars are all over auto salvage yards; the 1.8L cars are not) and then I'd totally turbo it, just for fun.

  • Nice stuff dude, and cool website too!

  • I had a custom driveshaft made that had the Miata splines at one end and the Datsun bolt pad at the other. It was inexpensive and better balanced than stock. I did all the fabrication with a hacksaw and a drill press. Check out my website (listed in the info section) for a complete how-to.

  • Thanks!
