The NTSB report link above - An F-86 fighter jet crashed in a huge fireball before 50,000 people watching at an air show in a Denver The Korean War-era SabreJet failed to pull out of a steep dive and plowed into the ground 300 yards from the nearest spectators at Air Show Colorado '97 in Westminster. A daring loop by a Korean War vintage jet at an air show Sunday ended in a fiery crash that killed the 63-year-old pilot, filled the sky with a huge fireball and scattered debris over three-quarters of a mile. ``Basically, the plane just disintegrated,'' said Westminster police spokesman Dan Mayer, who had been directing traffic to the air show at Wadsworth Parkway and East 108th Avenue around 1:15 p.m.
June 1 - Air Show Colorado 1997 (Broomfield, Colorado) - Ret. Colonel "Smiling Jack" Jack M. Rosamond was killed when he lost control of his restored F-86 Sabre Jet during an acrobatic loop at the (then known as) Jefferson County Airport. Unseasonably high temperatures combined with the natural high elevation (5,673 ft) of the airport was thought to make the air less dense than expected, leading to poor effectiveness of flight control surfaces. Nobody else was injured in the accident.

After (Jack Rosamonds) F-86 crash, the airport manager and the airport authority didnt want that type of airplane flying here. Last year, two years after the accident, we had a 500 foot minimum pass restriction and no civilian jet acro.

JEFFERSON COUNTY AIRPORT (COLORADO)
Part Two of Two
By Chuck Parnall
Last time we visited Gordon Page, CEO of Warbird Recovery and AirAssets at the Jefferson County Airport near Denver, Colorado. Gordon explained how he acquired three ME-109s, the pieces of one carefully arranged on the hangar floor before us. I asked about his plans for a museum
Im attempting to establish a Spirit of Flight Museum here with the intent to honor and thank the veterans who have given us the freedom to fly these airplanesnot just the veterans, but the engineers and ground support personnel—everybody who was involved with them. I also have a goal to build a brand new 35,000 sq. ft. museum hangar at Jeffco with a gift shop, meeting rooms, and a grille/bar area called Smilin Jacks that will have some of Jack Rosamonds artwork on display. Well try to do what Planes of Fame museum doesdrag a different airplane out every month to celebrate different periods of the war.
What will your main focus be?
Fighters, and maybe the trainers a pilot would have to fly in order to progress to the fighters. The heaviest airplane I can foresee is a B-25 or an A-26. We dont have room for a B-17 or the larger airplanes.
Im always looking for projects and have a web site at www.warbirdrecovery.com. I get responses once or twice a month from people around the world who have other aircraft. My goal is to build up the museum and continue to fly.
did he deploy before the impact, or was that a explosion before the crash
