Very good! His Tongan Majesty is relinquishing most of his power to bring reforms to his people! From where I come from, that is tradition. Example: If we want a new Constition, we do a petition to all of the people who want the same, and we go to the Monarch for "Redress of Wrong" In this case in reality, our Queen drafted a new constition on behalf of Her people's cries. But could not supported by memebers of our government!

If you speak to most Tongans they will tell you that they still want to hold on to their Monarchy, but with some reformation of course. There is nothing wrong with having a king; that is if he is a righteous king. I'm happy that the current king has given the people more say in government, but unlike England I dont want our king to be strictly a figure of tradition. To all those who hate on Tonga, we are first and foremost CHRISTIAN, & dont worship our king as I assume you dont worship malietoa.

please let's not get it twisted yall. The Tongans dont want a pure democracy. Tongans are not ready for a pure democracy as it also doesnt fit our lifestyle and traditional values. Having a monarchy has always taught Tonga the importance of reverencing authority, as we always pay respect to especially King Tupou I who united Tonga, made Christianity our official religion, and based our national flag on Christ whom we worship. Let's stop the hatred & be a little more grateful/respectful...

The guy speaking around 2:00 is full of shit. The people of Tonga now wants a true FREE DEMOCRATIC nation and not a Monarch nation. Even the natives of Tonga dont own land, only those of the higher class do. In Tonga, the rich gets richer while the poor gets poorer. We live inthe 21st Century and not in the 40s or 50s.
