The Word of Your Body (Sheik/Sater)

I saw the musical "Spring Awakening" a few weeks ago while my parents and sister were here for the holidays. The entire show was powerful but this song in particular stood out to me and, although I couldn't remember the melody, I found the chorus lyric tumbling around inside my head over the past several weeks. I finally bought the soundtrack and as soon I head the song again I was obsessed.

I spent two days trying to piece together the orchestration. I had to do it by ear since there was no published music -- and I don't think I got it exactly -- but it was a good exercise and, more importantly, gave me a greater appreciation of Duncan Sheik's fantastic composition and Steven Sate's subtle, beautiful lyrics.

This version is a combination of two separate versions that are heard during the show. I think it stays true to the spirit of the music, but I wanted to make that clear.

I filmed this in my bedroom with my MacBook's iSight camera.

I think I did all of this for someone, but I'm kind of afraid to say who.

When I found your video, I thought it was a cover done by a professional singer, in a studio, and was amazed to read you did this in your room! It was deeply moving and hauntingly beautiful.
