  • The recipe I have used for years has arm and hammer washing soda what does the baking soda do ?

  • @soonfully washing soda is what is commonly used, and is probably preferable. I just didn't have any on hand, so I used baking soda -- but baking soda can work, too. A lot of people choose to add baking soda to a load of laundry to help get their clothes clean, anyway.

  • Sodium Hydroxide is in everything from personal lubricant to toothpaste/mouthwash......its an old fear based on ignorance.

  • @drummer4hire12 you're very smart. use it if you want. just because it is in other products and hasn't caused immediate death does not make it benign. I'm really not interested in debating. btw - i make all of my own products - so its of little concern to me if it is found in mouthwash, etc.

  • is this laundry detergent with out borax??

  • @americanwasherfan yes. you can also use it with borax if you'd like. this recipe does not include the borax - its is a more mild option

  • @esconnell thanks for the info. I love my handsoap blends, but the hubby (though loving the smell) is under the impression that it *has* to suds up to clean.. I don't believe that. It's the ingredients, not the visual FX it gives off, that cleans... Yes? lol IDK maybe I'm just assuming - I'm no soap expert or science major lol

  • @ibkristykat The Kirks coconut castile soap lathers really well. I use the bar soap. Its known for lathering. And you can use the liquid castile for the hand-soap recipe, that is a quicker way to go. Also, I think you can use it for the laundry, but haven't tried it. You'd end up diluting it a lot. G'luck

  • you seem to know your stuff about soap. my question is, does castille soap really get you clean? my husband's beef with it is that it doesn't suds up enough for his taste (mind you I use the LIQUID castille soap for my hand & body soap recipes).

also - could I just use Liquid Castille soap in this recipe of yours?

  • @thehotavocado lol....Wasnt trying to ruffle feathers. I was just stating that it is hard to explain to people that lye is natural to be found in everyday products. I make and sell soap, but as soon as people hear "lye" they get turned off, no matter if you show them that the soap they use has it too, along with harsh chemicals. Sorry, I didnt mean to come across as a jerk. I didnt mean YOU were ignorant. Thank you for the info in the vid and take care;)

  • @drummer4hire12 ....Great Vid!!!!

  • thanks a really cool vid
