Hughes was shown to have been infatuated with his wife, Gracia, and their daughter, Elicia. He comically thrusts pictures of Elicia into his colleagues faces much to their annoyance - but it is clear that his erratic behavior is usually a cover for the serious and depressing nature of his work. In his final episode he was featured alive and with his family he is seen kissing his daughter goodbye before investigating a dangerous case involving Dr. Tim Marcoh. Hughes tries to phone Mustang with the crucial information, but is killed by Envy before he could talk to Mustang.
A tribute to my favorite FMA Character Maes Hughes. I was watching his death episode last night and it made me sad. I decided to put an AMV together for his loss. :( Farewell Maes Hughes.

I remember when I saw the episode of Hughes death then the episode of his funeral on adult swim a while back I cried Hughes was the best :,)

@CarloMeale Brotherhood follows the manga so it's the true story but basically FMA is the more emotional series whereas Brotherhood is the more action based one. They are both equally good, i've only seen a few episodes of Brotherhood but it's pretty awesome. Mustang is so badass in it ^^

@CarloMeale -.- ... Brotherhood is the original one, it follows the manga in each scene, there is no difference between it and the manga.
while the old fma followed the manga at the beginning and then it separates and make its own story.

Honestly. Killing Hughes off was quite the risk. It either would let the people who liked the FMA story that things are goanna get emotional. I mean i cried 2 boxes of tissues after reading the chapter when it came out
