Tavi Gevinson is editor-in-chief and founder of RookieMag.com and writes thestylerookie.com. Rookie, a site for teenage girls, broke 1 million page views within 5 days of launching in September of 2011, and contributors have included Miranda July, Dan Savage, Joss Whedon, JD Samson, Zooey Deschanel, Sady Doyle, Lesley Arfin, and Cindy Gallop. It has received praise from Weekend Edition Sunday on NPR, the New Yorker, and a number of other publications, and, most importantly, the girls who write in to the site. Tavi has also written for publications such as Harper's Bazaar, Jezebel, Lula, and Pop, and is a contributing editor to GARAGE magazine. She is 15 and a sophomore in high school, and also the author of an embarrassing diary recently found from the 6th grade.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I like the idea of "equal but different" when it comes to men and women...am I wrong in that belief? Maybe I am not studied enough in regards to gender equality or issues to have a strong opinion but I do think there are differences between men and women that are natural and we can't totally equalize everything without glossing over those. Can we all (men, woman, whatever you are) have both equality and be special too?

These days folks of my age, (old) see much that causes us to despair over what we see from the young. This young person gives us some relief, seeing in her age group that there are some who are thoughtful with truly fine minds.

The problem is "feminists" can't decide whether they want to be equal or special. You can't have it both ways.

Bobsbluebox I agree with you but i think the point some people would make is that some feminists desire equality for both sexes but only focus on the problems of one of them and disregard any problems the other may have. Its a valid point, however I believe feminists play a vital role in trying to achieve gender equality, they just need to be careful and remember not all males are oppressors and not all females are oppressed :)

So, you choose to dismiss equality?

It's not a contest as to who has it worse. Feminism is not about women being on top. It's about men and women being equal. I personally believe that the term should be scrapped and replaced with the term Equalism, but that isn't what is in debate here. There is a view point that all of mens inequalities stem from the misogyny they have enforced. I personally don't believe it, but I think it would be worth you looking up. For example a man being raped is rejected as men have said they are strong.
