Guqin - Feng Qiu Huang 《鳳求凰》 [The Phoenix Seeks His Mate]

Me playing Feng Qiu Huang 鳳求凰 ("the phoenix seeks his mate") on the guqin (ancient Chinese seven-stringed zither) in my bedroom. Played on a qin with silk strings (Huqiu brand if I remember).

Background: Feng Qiu Huang is the piece played by Sima Xiangru to woo his love, a beautiful lady, in the ancient Chinese novel, Xixiang Ji, set around 1,800 years ago.

Just out of curiosity, what is the instrument called and on average, how much does it cost?

@lavamaster530 Clue is in the title as to what's it called. As to price: how much does a violin cost? As much as its worth! Base factory qins are around £300-500 but a good decent qin that will last you for life and future generations is a couple of thousand.

No, once you are conditioned to it. Generally, you form a callus at the touching points. If you play it incorrectly then it will hurt.

i bought one but it is very expensive. i paid 1390 for one. The good part was my teacher in high school lets me play the guqin instead of a regular school instrument and she knows how to play it 2 so it was worth it. but if ur going to by 1 make sure its not fake because a lot of people sell fake ones. u can tell if the wood color is very light because guqin are made out of old wood the older the wood the better.

just in case you still want one, i bought a pro-make guqin from an eBay seller called china.presentation for $8xx USD + $100 shipping~~ very nicely made and they also provided tutorial DVD etc.

but the only thing i dont like are the metal strings i like playing on silk strings. my sister plays like a bigger version of a gu qin its called a guzheng and hers was 3600 and it has a big dragons on the sides very nice.
