Found this old clip on some video tapes I had transferred 8mm movies to years ago. I think it is the Thornton terminus around 1968 1969.
Bradford had the last trollybuses in the UK

  • Trolley buses are lovely. Very green and quiet. Accelerate well to as electric motors have all the torque up front, unlike crude IC motors where you have to wait for the thing to wind up.

  • 'orrible, soulless creatures! no wonder some called the trolley bus the "Silent Death!"

Give us the proper buses! engine at the front, gearbox (manual) in the middle followed by the propshaft to the back axle! give us the gearboxes that sing (Manual box AEC Regents) Gurgling exhausts (Leyland PD2/Leyland PD3) any time!

  • More Environmently friendly then Now!!!

  • I used to get the No 7 from Four Lane Ends and went right up to that turnaround in Thornton....lovely to see that again! Thanks for posting it

  • That turnaround at Thornton Road is still there as I went past it just the other week. Just wish the trolley buses were still running.

  • Hi - you're right, this is definately Thorton Road, near the top end, going towards Denholme. Also, I think that pull-in place for the trolleybuses is still there also.
