Ok what if you make that offer of $250, and they say yes we will take the $250.How do i make sure that the account is paid in full and that it will appear on my credit report as that debt being paid in full.

Do you have a formal letter to send to collection agencies, 3 major credit reporting agencies. Perhaps some guidance to writing one?

@pureNheart In my experience the settled account has shown in less than 30 days. Usually in approx. two weeks. But if it doesnt you can send proof to the CB's and they will update your information.

Or you can wait a month or two and then dispute the item and see if it just falls off your report. (perhaps if the debt is paid the CA wont bother to verify)

I would however never call a collection agency, send  everything in writting so you have a definitive papertrail. everything in writting.
