Just curious (and to lazy to look it up I guess) ;^)
But is this (almost) the same principal as the pop pop boat? A vent instead of water cooling?

@PuppyZwolle Nope a completely different mechanism I'm afraid :) This works exclusively on hot air, I'm sure if you read the wikipedia page you will find it fascinating. The pop-pop is a simple steam engine (and a very inefficient one at that, whereas the stirling is one of the most efficient engines invented)

@BasicModelling I knew that was coming :) Seriously reccomend you buy a kit not try from scratch, other easier projects have included flogging a dead horse, getting blood from a stone or banging your head against a brick wall :) Frustration central!
