When I was asked by a group of women in my community to give a speech about five years ago, I chose as my topic the need for reform to the public health system and the desperate need for an increase in the number of university placements for training Australian doctors. Doctors, nurses, and health professionals will always do their best to avoid unnecessary pain and tragedy, but they are only human, and often limited by time, resources and management. Only the Rudd government acknowledged it.

@TheCirmos first of all read the australian constitution - the resources belong to the STATES. anyone outside of WA for instance has NO claim to the resources there.

secondly, the mining already DO pay taxes. look at what rudd wants to do - his big new tax is going to shuffle money back and forth - the companies will pay royalties to the states for instance, then the fed will give it back. then we have to subsidize failing companies.
