This is a fine arrangement of "Hello, Stranger," but it lacks the moving, soulful rendering of Barbara Lewis' original, backed by the Dells, from the summer of 1963...

@shellyboy9 Barbara Lewis was 20 years old when she wrote and recorded "Hello Stranger". Elliman was 26 when she did her cover version.

no offense..yvonne's rendition is the best..this song was written before the singer was discovered..thanks to her role as Mary Magdalene in the movie version of Jesus Christ Superstar..she may not have reached the kind of success she so deserved,but she will always be remembered as one fine good singer and this being one of her 2 masterpieces(the other one-I don't know how to love Him)..

@tomrevitt Thankfully we live in a country in a country where we can agree to disagree without penalty. Glad to talk to music lovers.

@pigfootandbeer Thanx man. I stand corrected.

@popoahi99 I agree
What wonderful version. Barbara's version is just a tiny (quantum) bit more convincing, and she plays with the words/vocals a bit more. Barbara being slightly older at the time has the ring of conviction too. Barbara also seems to be both sweet and sexy on her vocals. Yvonne too has these qualities, Barbara just slightly more so. Great version nonetheless. Too bad Yvonne didn't do Baby I'm Yours. Or did she?
