Sony's released the first consumer HD Camcorder with interchangeable lenses, the NEX-VG10. SGNL by Sony took it to the set of Film Riot and put it in the hands of pro filmmaker Ryan Connolly to get his impressions as he uses it to make a short film.

  • @Dazsify Nah, if i were you i'd rather buy something like a Canon T2i/550d or if you have the cash for it, a Canon 5D, it's MILE's BETTER!

  • Ryan I love you... but this guy is a douche... I honestly wouldn't waist my time with this camera.

  • bullshit!!!!!

HD DSLR sound recording can use offline method. just sync sound from professional recorder such zoom H3....

the color adjustment is not professional at all. just curve the green color...sucks!

  • Though it is a shame it doesn't record 24p (you'd think they would have included such a vital element if they were aiming for film makers), the lack thereof probably has to do with the fact that the cam has a completely new sensor type. / 24p isn't just an ingredient you can throw into the mix of any camera without ample R&D.

  • @jcrogel I agree. Converting to 24p in post is CRAP compared to FILMING in 24p. Kinda defeats the whole purpose. WTH is he thinking!?

    .

But, for the $2g price, I WANT this camera (actually TWO so I can film two-subject coverage-shots simultaneously) - mostly for the :LARGE SENSOR & small DOF.

    .

Maybe by the time I have that money saved, someone will have this type of camera for me. (Altho XLR would be "nice" i'm prolly going to use a portable digital recorder & boom mic anyway)

  • @NextWaveG From what i've observed, Sony saved 24p for their Prosumer & up level cameras. They bill this as a CONSUMER camera (which is still a bit confusing w/ the interchangeable lens & large sensor, which is more aimed at pros, not consumers, but I digress).

I'm sure Sony will come out w/ a PRO version of the VG10 w/ 24p, XLR inputs, Zebras & the whole 10 yards... and add a FEW THOUSAND to the price.

Meanwhile, you could always film 25p w/ a PAL version (then there's the power situation)

  • NEED SOME CASH TO BUY THIS BEAST!

  • What that moire on his glasses 1:27 ?

  • 24p not being a big drawback from the camera? Seriously? Also the base for the tripod is made out of low quality materials. It breaks if you put a bigger zoom lens onto the cam.

  • thumbs up for Film Riot
