  • I think i saw another of these performances where the drummer fell over without anyone tripping on the drum set.

  • @paulreno10 touche (I've probably spelt that wrong lol!)

  • @WenchesandMead And "you're" only allowed to criticise other's spelling errors when "your" own grammar is correct!

  • @statusquo94 your only allowed to make judgements once you can spell.

  • @bigmagic96 You will find it is Sue Wilkinson performing "You've Gotta Be A Hustler If You Want To Get On" !!!

  • this reminds me of the good old days

  • I guess this was just a UK-only type show, since I don't remember seeing any of it n the U.S. But after seeing MANY videos showing the obvious NON singing/playing, I am amazed that it seemed to be so popular. What's the fun in watching a band ACTING like they are singing, especially when most singers aren't very good actors. I suppose everyone has their own preferences however.

  • hey david, sorry if i sounded a bit harsh! thing is , not many groups played live, but they sometimes did sing live to a backing track, either studio or specially recorded. hence the 'all about eve' fiasco or neil ad-libbing to his 'hole in my shoe'. it was always good to see acts performing tho, given there wasn't much choice otherwise. that said, TOTP had become so cheese-tastic, it didn't really matter that it was so serious or not. we all know it was good crap fun, so no problem!

  • Actually keef71, you are right and sorry if my comments sounded rather stuffy. Despite many of the acts miming on Top Of The Pops, I used to watch the show every week. It was more a visual than a sound show. I Am sure that if many of the groups did actually Play Live, it would not sound as good and no doubt would effect their chart position.

  • @DavidG5434 oh balls! everybody knew what TOTP was/meant - hence quo took it in the spirit of things, it was the most influential/watched chart show type thing in the uk - no-one really cared if it was live or not, it was the chart rundown, every thursday evening, a bit crap and outdated even then, but why spoil the party? in them days, an appearance on TOTP could do some serious chart damage (good or bad), why d'you think so many 'serious' acts would appear on it, week after week?
