Ever since my first listen of this traditional Irish song, I was particularly struck for its intensity and poignant melancholy. Like all good things over the years I continued to listen as from afar, until few days ago, when a sudden back pain forced me to sit firmly: was in this situation when I felt the urge and the desire to arrange "Black is the colour". After played it, I was satisfied: I have found what the music made me feel at the beginning, though perhaps in a different way this time. It is an arrangement a little rough, but in my opinion is how it should be, because can only be scratching a sentiment borned by the disappearance of a loved one!...

I sound completely unplugged, with my acoustic guitar McIlroy A25 (Cedar/Walnut). There is no amplification, the sound is taken from the Handycam as naturally comes from the instrument.

Lirycs:

Black is the colour of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She had the sweetness smile and the gentlest hands
And I love the ground whereon she stands

I love my love and well she knows
I love the ground whereon she goes
I wish the day it soon would come
When she and I could be as one

I go to the Clyde for to mourn and weep
For satisfied I never can be
I'll write her a letter, just a few short lines
And suffer death one thousand times

Black is the colour of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She had the sweetness smile and the gentlest hands
And I love the ground whereon she stands

  • Absolutely brilliant mate. Really moody stuff, always a pleasure to listen to you. Have you heard 'Dialogue' by Jackson C Frank or 'Milk & Honey' by him also. Sounds moody like 'Dialogue' - Amazing mate
