United Nations, 17 March 2009 - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announces that the UN will participate in Earth Hour on 28 March by turning off the lights at its headquarters in NY and at other sites around the world. More than 1,000 cities around the world will participate in the event which will show support for action on climate change and for an agreement in Copenhagen this December.

  • Kimoon is a funny guy, and his english ain't bad... but he's a complete nuitjob on global warming. He says the earth is warming, and says we need an agreement based on "sound science", but yet I haven't seen any compelling evidence to support his claims. What I have seen is freudulant numbers, and reports of tampered information.

Global warming isn't real, people. I don't feel any warmer than I did last year. He's just doing this to gain political support.

  • My finger is on the switch! If we all do it,we might realise the star light is adequate and most artificial lights are needed due to 'light pollution'!Also maybe a temporary cease in wars, armaments production, oil and gas drilling, mining, driving cars and thinking selfish thoughts.

Im concerned by some the directions the UN is manipulated, this at least is a step forward to the true nature of the organisation.

    Enjoy the stars :)

  • This is a great initiative! The best thing is that we can all participate and make it possible.

  • DEFINITELY! :D

  • ugh, agreed. imagine the chances earth will have because of that.

  • This is definitely a positive direction. 1 for support.

  • Glad to see WWF is now motivating the whole world on this worldwide efforts to protect the planet!

  • Let's do it.
