Also, knowing what your opponent is doing is of no use if you don't know how to respond to it. Execute your build and if/when you die, watch the replay and see what you should look for to identify the build that kills you and try scouting accordingly.

As with every RTS, mechanics are the most important thing that makes everything possible. it's actually detrimental to overthink your strategy if your macro sucks. You can get into diamond executing any reasonable build with just good mechanics.

@tiaxanderson If you don't know what your opponent is doing you either have to get that knowledge by poking up his ramp for example or you need to do something aggressive to force your opponent to respond whether it is harassing, bringing your army to his base or expanding aggressively. Building little bit of everything is actually the worst thing you can do, then you're weak against everything.

I'm a Protoss player myself, but a good tip for any race is; if you can't see your opponents build (you didn't scout, you can't scout, you just don't see the build), try a diverse army as possible. Make sure you can attack ground as well as air. Make sure you have something against armoured as well as unarmoured units.

Also, you finished the game but still get slaughtered? I know playing against AI is nothing like playing against other people, but it should give you some ideas.
