Cheshire has an Armed response?!
-
@DinkyDominique my cousin is a Sgt. in the Armed Response. Its a really good job!

@TheAlexagius Around 95% are routinely unarmed. Only around 5% of UK police officers are trained in firearms use. But those who are trained are trained in submachine guns, pistols, tasers, sniper rifles and have advanced military training and can respond in no time.

When I was a kid the village fete used to have a tombola and morris dancers. How times have changed.

This is something id love to do when/if I get accepted as a regular officer, I've just passed out as a SPC in Devon & Cornwall Police so I got a few years first. Do you need military experience to train as a AFO?
Are they armed with HK G36? I'd prefer the HK MP5 to be honest =D

@DinkyDominique No you don't need any military experience. It differs between forces. Some are using the G36's, some are using the MP5's.

@TheAlexagius
Sort of, there's AFOs and SFOs. AFOs are Authorised Firearms Officers and are the ones that you tend to see out on patrol, and are the first response to a firearms incident. SFOs are Specialist Firearms Officers who will be like SWAT, they are trained further than the AFOs and have better tactics & weapons available for the most extreme incidents, like ending a hostage situation, whereas they wouldn't attend somebody with a gun in the street, AFOs would go to that.
