Some Australian imagery by Rob Paynter to a song written by Johnny Clegg called Digging for Some Words which is available from iTunes. Rob took the photos on a trip in the Outback, recorded on his computer using GarageBand.
Wanderers and nomads have walked this land for aeons
Red dirt beneath their feet above them only stars
Who will send an emissary to speak to a people
Who've somehow lost their way among the concrete and the tar.
I'm digging for some words beneath the dunes of Lake Mungo
I'm searching for a dreamsong in the shifting sands of time
I'm seeing my reflection in the waters of Lake Hattah
Looking for a reason, looking for a rhyme.
From Sydney to Menindee, the dirt and dust and heat
The far off horizon that you never ever meet
A firey sun to guide us and a silver moon behind
Mulga trees bind the ground their branches so entwined.
Wanderers and nomads have walked this land for aeons
Red dirt beneath their feet above them only stars
Who will send an emissary to speak to a people
Who've somehow lost their way among the concrete & the tar.
From Willandra to Nerrandera the rolling road runs long
The Murray and the Darling, old steamers almost gone
Kangaroos and Emus, Galahs and Pelicans
Sunsets, silhoettes, fireside songs.
Wanderers and nomads ...
One of the few Johnny Clegg songs I don't like.
