America was on a different track at the time. We had just gotten out of an era of Prince, Madonna, LA hair metal, and Ronald Reagan. We were done with the "gender bending" we wanted something angry, something raw, and nirvana and all those bands had it. Britpop is great it just didn't fit in with where we were at, at that time.

not sure which bit you mean. the first song (trekking through the snow etc) is Born a Girl, the bit where they're on stage with nicky in a dress is La Tristesse Durera.
