Pontiac was gone when performace died in the late 70's, shame that the EPA had to put up so many restrictions, I'd love to own a 78 Macho T/A though, not that I hate my 81

I have to go with pontiac.... there were a quite a few fine mustangs but pontiac tried to keep the power up during the late 70's and not give up on preformance like the rest did...

@brtshstel I'm not busting on you but all pontiac blocks with the exception of the 301 and maybe 303 were all the same size. The only thing that pontiac did was mess with the stroke and bore to get different displacements. The difference between the 400 and smaller and the 421,428, and 455 was journal size the 400 and smaller were small journal blocks. The 455 with modest work can be a brute but yes the 400 a great motor that could handle higher rpms unlike the 455. I have a 78 w72 TA :)

Too bad the Pontiac 455 couldn't compete with the Buick 455's torque or Chevy 454's horsepower. Regardless, there is no finer smallblock than a Pontiac 400. And better yet, the turbo V-6 Trans Ams were faster than 305 Z-28s or that 5.0 GT that Mustang fans masturbate over. I would take an early 2nd-gen or a 3rd gen over any Mustang...and I mean ANY Mustang. The only one of those I like is the 68 390.

60's: mustangs were better, 70's: trans am was better, 80's: trans am was better, 90's: trans am was better until 94 when they were tied until 98 when trans am was better until 1999 when mustang got a redesign and they evened up, 2000- 2002 they were even. (this is all based on looks)
