I too love this song, and I have enjoyed all of the comments, but I found it odd that no one has mentioned what the song is really about. I'm the mother of two children (4 and 6) and they are truly gifts, but the Best Gift was the baby Jesus who was born over 2,000 years ago for all of us.

I grew up listening to this song each year. I wish I still had the album this was on. It had some amazing performances by artists that we don't hear from anymore. So sad how time takes these talented people from us. Barbara needs to grace us with some more music. She is a rare talent.

I was born Christmas Eve with name theodore meaning god's gift. I used to have my mom's lasagna every birthday before midnight mass, when I could open birthday gifts before brothers could.

my mother also sang this song to me in 1973. she held me in her arms and looked me in my eye and sang as the song played she sang the words in sequence. My mom died of cancer the next year when i was 15 yrs old.
