you need to get 10 or more of them so you can pass the mine cart part and continue to the bean castle.If you dont get 10 or more diamonds you cant pass,you saw at the end of the rail there is a part of the ground where it says 10? that explains how much diamonds you need to pass

....later in the game,you can use those beans in the coffee shop and make some drinks wich can restore your hp or something else,You just have to get enough beans.

lol,if you were listening in chuckola woods(or however they are called i cant remember)in one room there was a granddaughter of the tree wich asked you to get 3 type of chuckola fruit so you could pass,and she explained how to get beans from the ground,to hit luigi with a hammer so he goes into ground,and then when luigi is under the circle with x on it,just jump of out the ground and you get a bean.You can beans from everywhere,from rope jump challange,from ground....

@streetammo09 its where a bean is you need to hammer luigi into the ground (learned later in the game) and pop out under it.
