First part of a three-part tribute to composer/conductor Sanford Green (1914-2007). At a young age he became a prolific song writer for musical short subjects. He died August 26, 2007 at age 93, and a memorial mass was held Tuesday, September 4 at St. Paul The Apostle R.C. Church in Manhattan. At the age of nineteen he became a staff composer for the short subjects division of a major studio, located in the old Vitagraph Studios on Avenue M in Brooklyn. He composed songs for more than 35 musical short subjects between 1934 and 1937. He worked as an arranger and musical director all his life, and has a son who is a theater conductor. Here are some of Sanford Greens film songs as they were originally performed.
