Une fois retourné à Montevideo j'ai eu un peu de temps pour découvrir la ville, et me reposer, la fatigue du voyage commençant à faire effet. Je prévoyais au départ d'aller aussi à Colonia del Sacramiento, petite ville juste en face de Buenos Aires, mais en fin de compte j'ai décidé de ne pas y aller et simplement de profiter de Montevideo.
J'ai fait un petit tour organisé de la ville, ce qui m'a donné l'occasion de voir beaucoup de choses mais malheureusement pas de m'y attarder. Nous nous ne nous sommes pas arrêtés non plus dans le quartier résidentiel historique, le Prado, qui est rempli de vieilles maisons superbes dans les style années 20 et 30. Vraiment Montevideo, selon les standards Sud-Américains, et extraordinaire! Mais le mieux à mes yeux fut la côte, et le Rio de la Plata. Voir des petits voiliers se promener tranquillement sous le soleil fut un grand plaisir. :) Vraiment c'est un endroit où je pourrais vivre!
Le lendemain j'ai retrouvé Ana, rencontrée à La Paloma, et nous avons mangé un asado géant au marché du port: il fallait bien que je profite du pays! ;) Après ça je l'ai laissée me guider dans la ville, jusqu'à la forteresse, et la journée s'est terminée par une bonne conversation autour d'un café à une terrasse. C'est très Européen tout ça, mais j'en avais tellement besoin...
Ma prochaine étape étant le Brésil, et le bus pour Rio prenant quelque chose comme 40h de voyage, je me suis acheté un billet d'avion pour y aller. Le matin du départ, un vendredi férié, la Plaza Independancia était déserte, alors ils y tournaient une publicité de voiture! Le seul problème est que j'ai dû marcher un bon moment pour me trouver un taxi, tout le secteur étant bloqué...
Ultimement c'est dommage que je n'aie pas eu plus de temps en Uruguay. Il me restait suffisament de choses à faire dans mon voyage pour ne pas trop y traîner, et les guides de voyage n'en disaient pas grand-chose. Mais parfois la simplicité est meilleure que tout le bruit et l'artifice du monde...

Once back in Montevideo I had a bit of time to discover the city and get some rest, the weariness of travelling starting to kick in. I was thinking in the first place to go to Colonia del Sacramiento, small town just in front of Buenos Aires, but finally I decided no to go and simply enjoy Montevideo.
I went on a tour of the city, which gave me a chance to see many different things but sadly not to stop very long in those places. We didn't stop either in the old residential district, the Prado, which is full of beautiful houses, 1920s and 30s style. Really Montevideo, by South-American standards, is extraordinary! But for me the best was the coast, and the Rio de la Plata. Seeing little sailboats going peacefully around under the sun was real pleasure! :) Really it's a place where I could live!
The next day I had an apoinment with Ana, whom I had met in La Paloma, and we first went for a big asado in the harbour market: I had to take advantage of the country! After that I let her guide me in the city, up to the fortress, and we ended the day with a nice café at a terrace. All of that was very European, but I needed it so much...
My next destination being Brazil, and the bus to Rio being a 40-hour ride, I bought a plane ticket to go there. The morning of the departure, a Friday and a holiday, the Plaza Independancia was desert so some people were shooting a car commercial there! The only problem was that I had to walk quite a long time to find a taxi, the whole area being blocked...
Ultimately it's a pity I didn't have more time in Uruguay. I had enough other things to do in my trip no to stay there too long, and the travel guides weren't saying much about it. But sometimes the simplicity is better that all the noise and all the tricks in the world..."
