Kinetics & One Love are proud to present the full music video for "Will You Be Remembered?" featuring Missy Modell. Inspired by the charity work of Platform H (an angel capital provider for young social entrepreneurs), the song addresses the disasters in Haiti and Japan and other pressing global issues. The music video features performances by Kinetics & One Love, Missy Modell, The Trust, and Jamal Woolard - the actor who played Biggie Smalls in the 2009 film "Notorious." Directed, produced and edited by Adam Chesbrough of DNK Productions, the video shows two contrasting lifestyles: that of the privileged young socialite occupied with flashy possessions and personal gain against that of a humble Biggie Smalls struggling to grow his music from the street corners of Brooklyn to listeners around the world. The contrast is meant to ask young people, fully aware of the catastrophes in Haiti, Japan and elsewhere, if they see themselves adopting a self-consumed lifestyle or if they'll do something that will be remembered by people around the globe -- like Biggie, whose music continues to touch worldwide listeners nearly fifteen years after his death.
There is also an extended cut of the music video that features a rap battle filmed while on set at Extra Place in NYC. By calling out the characters who spit superficial punchlines about clothes and jewelry, the battle highlights some of the themes addressed in the song and main video. Will You Be Remembered? (Feat. Missy Modell)
Looking back at what we've done
How will you feel about what we've become?
Would you wanna turn around?
Would you wanna be the one who's known
For doing everything that everyone just talked about?
Will you be remembered?
Or will you be forgotten?
If a storm was comin' would you do something to stop it?
If you had a bottle you'd probably pop it
Even if you knew that bottled water in the Third World's not even an option
Deep pockets, would you ball out?
Or listen to the cries of those that call out?
Why we all about tryin' to stay fly
When the things with the wings are fallin' out of the sky? (Why?)
And when they land inside an oil sea
Will you be the one to spoil corporate royalty?
And as the world is boiling and you have to evacuate
Tell me what will happen when a bag is all that you will have to take
So knowing half will break, and only some will stand
Would you grab a backpack or somebody's hand?
Look, I don't wanna criticize
I'm just askin' y'all to take a minute to visualize
[chorus]
'Cause you don't have to be forgotten
For every flower rotting, another one of 'em blossoms
They can be blockin' policy but never block democracy
The mob'll obviously opt to go topple autocracy
And these'll be the songs that our children hear
Don't you want to tell 'em how we made a killin' here?
How we pushin' 23-year-old billionaires
How we put a black man in a white building, yeah
So when they say that our fate is debatable
Ask 'em to find a generation more ready or capable
And I promise if I ever turn around
It'll only be so I can take a bow
Singin' out, we goin' make it, we goin' make it
There's one shot left and we goin' take it
And we goin' have a toast to be the best in the book
It's not the position you stand, it's the direction you look
When they look back
Will you be the one they talk about?
So will you turn around?
Would you wanna turn around?
Will they look back and remember?
