kde4 is the worst thing ive ever experienced. i can't use pclinux my favorite distro anymore as it bogs down, gets errors and i have reinstall numerously. i have an amd2 computer and don't intend to buy high end equipement every 2 years, this is only 2 years old. what is going on? NWO threats? linux is going back to the dark ages, bogged down worse than windows, flash freezes, threats of 3d going. stop kissing ass, and be FOR THE PEOPLE. currently pinguy and gnome is better.

lol, nice to see those buggy things on a rock-solid 4.6 :P

@x1and0 one of the issues ive noted with corporate usage isnt stability, i mean i know places that still use visual source safe, its accountability. corporations like corporations, because they have a person they can hold accountable, there is a tech support area that they can call if it breaks or if(quite likely) they dont know what the fuck they are doing. and quite perversely they like buying things, they dont want free, they want to pay for something, they want a license.

on debian live cd? i have been looking for kde4 for debian for some time...wonder if i can finally be faced with the tough choice of whether to upgrade. (i kinda decided not to decide since it wasnt an option for debian at the time) i just dont know, its got a lot of bells and whistles...but most are useless (i can not see a good reason to want to rotate my window.) some seem overly ambitious, most is just new paint, but i am impressed with what they have done and would like to at least try it.

I've always found that virtualized OSes are pretty snappy compared to LiveCDs, since they're running from hard disk rather than CD, but maybe your hardware is different...
LiveUSB owns all.

1. Free as in beer
2. No worries of losing your software because of piracy or even false claims of piracy
3. Somewhat more modular, you can un-install and replace all the default applications if you really want.
4. Multiple desktops. This is like the one thing that bothers me about Windows. It looks so easy to implement, and Windows 7 hasn't even tried to add it, whereas most X11 window managers have had it for ages.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks, chitalker!

woww! And this is the live CD?? I couldn't get my kde 4 to work that fast on my virtual box, so I was afraid I would really have to stick with kde 3.5...
You give me hope ;-]
I'll check deb later... Now i'm trying mint (just released)...

window rotation: use it in gimp (krita, inkscape, blender, etc.) if you are a digital artist, this is indispensable.

playing games, cant see any reason to take linux
KDE 4 will not be ready for corporate usage for a long, long time, perhaps 4.1 will be stable enough, perhaps we will have to wait for 4.2. Yes, the technology is great, but it is far from stable and you and your family should stick with the KDE 3.5.x rock-solid-stable technology for now. And do not recommend Gentoo to first time GNU/Linux users, it is great for l33t people, but Ubuntu or Mandrake technology are better first-time distributions.
