This is the second year that my brother, Scott, and I have made the trip down to Uvalde, Texas to hunt with Border Bandit Outfitters. This year was a tough hunt, since we had 11 guys show up (instead of the five we had last year). Still it turned out OK. There were four of us hunting for a trophy axis, and two were taken. I was one of the guys who didn't take one, although I did put some meat in the freezer on the last day.

Big fun, and I'll be doing it again next year.

By the way, the hunt is over baited areas, but there are no high fences. These exotic species are thriving all over the Texas Hill Country.

  • u call that a hunt of course the second axis walked away U WER IN A TRUCK i hunt myself and like to stalk the animals not chase them in cars

  • More power to ya, brother. I have done my share of stalking, and will continue to do so. But on these TX ranches, this is how they hunt, and while it's a lot different from the kind of hunting many people do, it's still a kick in the pants. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

  • where did u hunt at because i am from Uvalde and it seems that u where more in the direction of Camp Wood and Rocksprings

  • This was out near Leakey.

    We stayed in Uvalde.

  • Are you inviting me to a hunt? I'd love to get to AK, but it's been outside of my budget so far. Not real sure I'd get a lot of pleasure out of whacking a moose (an antlered cow), but would love to get after the caribou.

As far as this Texas hunt, nobody claimed we were roughing it. It's just fun.

By the way, the animals on this hunt were NOT fenced in. There are huge herds of free-ranging axis deer all over the state. Saw more of them killed on the road in TX than whitetails.

  • Holy crap alot of activity.... THATS ALOT OF WHITETAILS... I mean Holy crap nice... awsome video dude

  • Lipscomb, there were more whitetails there than I've ever seen in my life. I tried stalking the axis at one point, but every time I turned around I got busted by whitetails again. You couldn't walk five steps without bumping into them.
