he said a correlation which does not imply causation. it is only a relationship between variables which is either positive or neagtive. thus two variables could be related in a proportional or inversely proportional manner or caused by another factor. the one he mentions is a positve correlation between brain size and intelligence. so, just because shrews or whales have larger brain DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE MORE INTELLIGENT.

Those aliens on the original Star Trek with the big heads and the cool capes...the ones that communicated telepathically...they were pretty smart..therefore I conclude that head size probably correlates to brain size...but then there's King kong Bundy and Andre the giant......confusing......hmmm mm. It's actually not brain size that matters as much as the proportion between brain weight and body weight.

The ratio of brain weight to body weight is 2.33% for humans, but 3.33% for shrews. I don't think shrews will "take over the world," but our understanding of intelligence probably has more to do with the size of the cerebrum, and the number of convolutions in the brain.

the correlation of brain volume breaks down once you go to large animals, like cows, elephants and whales, nevertheless his probably right. the number and size of lobes makes a real deal in terms of intelligence.
