lol not even half. An equal to gy401 is logictech, its cheaper and about a third of the weight too. Some say its better and you can get them on ebay for $80 if you bid right. Telebee is pretty good too
I have the same problem with servo sensitivity. The Gyro is placed on side with words reading upward. I have tied different servo's with same effect. Plus Head lock doesn't work properly. When switch is moved to head lock servo move to one side and will not recenter during stick deflection. Any solutions???
Gyro must be mounted vertical,on its edge with wording reading upwards. Mount using sticky pads (to reduce vibration) as close to main shaft as poss. to sense twisting angle. Gyro senses angular motion not linear!
Gain is adjusted with signal from radio which is fixed!
To adjust manually in permanent HH mode, disconnect red wire/ connector from receiver & adjust gain using trim pot on gyro unit. +gain will increase sensitivity/temp drift as well as tailhold! Needs expo. controls really!
Umm maybe its cause the gyro is on its side. The helicopter should be level and the gyro should be mounted so the its on its side and the words are reading up.
Now, perhaps you have found the key to my problem, I get very large sensitivity. Your gyro is mounted on the top, and getting little input. Mine is on the side and perhaps getting too much. Curious...if I find a good place I'll let you know!
Wen you use headlock mode the heli want recenter as long as you´r not in the air

how good is the esky hh gyro compared to the futaba gy401 performance-wise. is it at least half as good?

It's definitely not OK to place the HL gyro like that. It should be pointing up, i.e. the words should read up pointing to the sky.
