The famous broadcast of this influential avant-garde work took place on the BBC Third Programme on June 5, 1961. The percussionists were 'Claude Tessier' and 'Anton Schmidt'. Zak's original manuscript score is currently believed to be lost.

  • Elsewhere the duration of this remarkable recording is given as 12 minutes. Did Zak,or his daughter, Aleatora, authorise cuts?

  • Funny how this is 1961- 6 years later Hans interviews Syd and Roger from Pink Floyd and critizises them. And another 6 years later Pink Floyd uses a lot of the sounds that Hans has used here to make Dark Side of the Moon. I'm a Pink Floyd fan. But what I like about Hans is (to me) he is basically saying a few things: "keep your eyes peeled, there are a lot of friggen posers out there, make up your own mind, & don't feel you should like it just caus it's been shown to you via a certain medium.

  • @datawraith3080 The very fact that it exists means that it is legitimate, just as is any other music. You keep on pretending that I have "fallen for" something, when i haven't.

  • @johnloony it doesn't matter who composed it,

    the HOAX is that you think it is legitimate music and critique it as such, rather than realizing that the PIECE is a collection of noises

    the intention was for the PERFORMANCE to be a hoax, and the fake composer is just a vessel to do so

  • @datawraith3080 No I have not fallen for it, because I have never believed that it was composed and scripted by Piotr Zak, as was claimed by the original broadcast. The fact that people (whatever their names) di noises (whether it is music or not) remains a fact, so the performance itself is not a hoax.

  • @johnloony but the entire objective of the "composers" was to entice legitimate critics and avant-garde music enthusiasts into thinking that this was legitimate music. piotr zak was just a name, a medium to do so

    you, sir have fallen for the ruse full force, critiquing and evaluating the piece as if it were avant-garde music rather than just noise

    piotr zak was never the hoax. the hoax is that people think this collection of noises is music

  • @datawraith3080 No no no! You have missed the point. The fact that two people went around a room banging things and making noises means that they made, and performed, a piece of abstract music. That performance exists. It is therefore not "fake music"; it is actual music, which was actually performed, and actually happened. The only element of the performance which constitutes a "hoax" is the fictional names of the two perfomers, and the implication that it was done according to a score.

  • @johnloony no YOU have missed the point. it was a performance of noise-making to show that fake music made at random with no musical intentions could be mistaken for the real thing. this was a hoax approved by the bbc for this very purpose

  • @datawraith3080 You have missed the point. The fact remains that it is a performance of "music" (or "sound", or "noise") done by the people who did it. It doesn't matter whether it had a score, or whether it was improvised, and it doesn't matter what their names are.
