My cars doing exactly that! Ive been hunting everywhere and almost pulled the trans cuz at first it stopped making noise at idle but got louder at higher revs. So ever time i put thr clutch in it would go away. Now it does that noise all the time. New tensioner is on order!
Weak quality of the video HAHA!! It would have been nice to see the tensioner in the video since you started it up. I'm to scared to start my car for fear the chain will jump a tooth and bend a valve.

same thing happened to me, turns out the hydraulic tensioner for the chain between the cams had let go.

there is a known fault with the oil pumps starving the camshafts of oil due to either none genuine filter or blockage of the strainer pump gauze, common fault on 1.8 engines coded adr etc

time for a new car

use 10w 40. if you have more then 60k.

boldfitter - its pretty labor intensive and tedious since you have to mark the chain and get it exactly back in place and the part is around 500-800$ - the "stealer" quoted me around $1500 to do it all - doing this Wed myself and keeping my fingers crossed

You say that the cam tensioner, how hard is that to replace, this audi i wanna buy is doing that. I walked away thinking it was valve knock.
-
almost sounds like rod knock
The noise is gone after a while, i changed the cam tensioner and also switched to rotella 5w40 synthetic. I was previously using the castrol 5w40 syntec.

Noise is gone now, must of been a cam tensioner failed and slightly nicked a valve?
It's all speculation but 15k miles later still running strong.
