The FLIR thermal infrared camera sees damp sofas, cold cola, and metal mirrors. But it can't see black trash bags! "Thermal Eye" camera TSC by L3/Raytheon. Find them on eBay by searching for keywords "thermal imaging." Also look for $2000 camera "FLIR Scout.".

I used to do that all the time to creep out relatives. Also rub dry ice chunks on your face. (They never teach you that its unsafe for little kids, adults not so much.) Also: stretch the bag backwards so it mashes your face, then breathe hard in and out with gurgling sounds. (Teach yourself to burp backwards, then make the reverseburp gurgle.)

Drones that are going to fly over US will probably have also FLIR thermal or terahertz cameras and this is not nice at all. What materials or dyes can be used to become invisible in thermal spectrum?

Use about a half inch of wet mud. Like Ahnold.

Mythbusters proved that it's not best way. I guess logically best way would be to use thermal blanket that has insulator and on surface thermally conductive foil that adapts quickly to environment temperature. But it reflects IR rays and foil may seem to be cool - darker then for example grass in sunlight.

    Could leaf camo work?

Yeah, if you can isolate your covering from your hot skin surface, so the outer layer isn't hot, then it's just a problem of normal camoflage. It's hard to be invisible for white-light cameras. Thermal spectrum isn't so different (ignoring the problem of glow from warm bodies.) Hide inside a box covered with vertical mirrors?

A good technique is to stay perfectly still ...inside a building.

Hey VSAUCE, thanks for the extra traffic!

But for making your own lava, you don't need a huge lens. Microwave ovens will do it. Put a piece of obsidian glass on a tiny inverted flowerpot in your microwave. Use a torch to heat the obsidian to a dull red glow. Then close the door and nuke it.

It doesn't just melt. It foams, becoming a huge white popcorn puff! Remember that our volcano lava is full of gas, and forms ash clouds rather than Hawaiian-style lava rivers.

Poncho may become hotter in shoulder area so I think it would be good idea to use in such areas something like thermal blanket material or leaf camo.
